The Southern Illinois region has some spectacular Italian options. This region has a heavy Italian influence, from the “Great Wave” of immigration during the early 20th century. Many Italians began migrating from central Illinois to southern Illinois working in coal mines. Many settled together in the various towns resulting in a strong Italian influence in the region.
